The first creation was for Thomas of Woodstock, son of Edward III and Philippa of Hainault. He married Eleanor of Calais, they had a son who died two years before Thomas.

The second creation was for Humphrey of Lancaster, son of Henry IV and Mary de Bohun. He married firstly, Jacqueline, Countess of Hainault and later Eleanor of Cobham. The children he produced by Eleanor were illegitimate and could not succeed to the titles. His first marriage did not produce children.

The third creation was for Richard Plantagenet, from the House of York. He was the son of Richard, Duke of York and Cecily Neville. He married Anne Neville and had a son, however his son died young, and his child merged with the Crown in 1483.
